Not For Gray

I have yet to find a Henna that covers Gray Hair. This one guarantees it and still it did nothing to my gray. Even after I left it on for more then an hour. Henna only seems to be a conditioner or color for anything but Gray hair.

Covers gray if you use red first

I've been using another brand of henna for years to cover gray with a 2-step process: first you color your hair red, rinse out the red henna (but don't shampoo), let dry, then apply brown. Leave the brown on for twice as long as recommended. This takes extra time, but it does the trick. For me it's worth it because henna is the only thing I can use to color my hair that doesn't ruin my fine hair's texture.

Life is full of tradeoffs

Yes this henna does not cover all the gray. And yes, I have to apply it more often than regular hair color sometimes every week in the summer or every two or three weeks in the winter) and leave it in longer, about an hour. When I put it in I shampoo before I put in the henna but I don't condition till I rinse it out at the end.But I can't help noticing a lot of older women who use dark color have little white caps that they can't see at the top of their heads as the gray grows out. Also let's face it, regular commercial dyes have a lot more toxic stuff in them.I put this in. It gives texture and color. Because it doesn't cover completely, it looks a little more natural when it's growing out. And I don't have a little white "hat". So my hair is brown and gray. It's fine. I'm comfortable with it.

The color is exactly what it shows on the box and it is a great color. It is not too intense and it lasts for a very long time. I often go to the hair salon but when I am on a budget this is my go to box color. You cannot even tell that it is a box color because it is that good.

The only brand of dye I buy

I have made the mistake of changing brands before, and paid for it. This covers stubborn greys and lasts for a long time. When the color does fade (since it is a reddish) it doesn't fade unnaturally. My natural color is very close to this shade though, so that may play into it. I have very fine, porous hair and this does not damage it. I regularly go to the pool and hot-tub and am able to go at least 2 months between colorings despite this. My only complaint is that it smells awful (but that's ammonia for you) and the gloves are made for tiny hands.

I used a couple cool-toned hair dyes in the past which ended up sucking all of the warm hues out of my hair, resulting in a strange, nasty color... I realized I needed to put some of those warm hues back in so I bought this. I got exactly what I was hoping for --- a rich medium brown with the perfect hint of red in it... not too little and not too much! I am so impressed!

I wish there could be something similar to dying the hair without all the process. Easier, but with the final result as if dyed. The problem with these products is that they really are that a 'mascara'. So it feels sticky, unnatural. They hide your gray, alright, but not as you wish it would be. Besides, there are some areas where is difficult to use (border face/hair).

It's all right

Not as good as the Roux Tween Time blonde touch up stick I loyally bought for years, but since they've discontinued that one, this was the only option I found. It takes longer to cover the gray roots with this wand, you see. These sticks are a great cost savings, because you can delay dying your roots by a couple of weeks. Who doesn't love that?

Life Saver

I have tried every type of touch up product out there - Hairmarker, crayons, Claudia Steven products, etc. This is the best. In the time it takes to touch up all the gray with a wand of wash out product, I can apply this permenant color to all the same areas, then just wait 15 minutes. The instructions say 10 minutes, but I wait 15 minutues. The coverage is flawless. If you go to a salon, like I do, just ask them for your formula (4N + dark YOY, etc). You can use that formula to help you select the right color. The coverage is 100% on gray. This is perfect for in between salon visits, just before a business trip, big meetings, special evening. And the best part is I can extend the time between salon visits. This package only provides enough for temples, part, hair line touch up. But, it's plenty for that job. I used maybe half to 3/4 for my touch up, which was about 3 weeks after my salon color. Awesome product.

Love it for those new spots of gray

I never tried an over the counter product and was very skeptical. However, I couldn't swing the salon trip anymore so I gave this a shot. I wanted to cover those new grays that appear just over the ears - the ones that look so great on men and somehow add ten years as a woman! I'm a brunette with auburn overtones. This color matched my hair perfectly without looking like a color was added. I leave on the full 12-15 minutes because my grays and whites can be stubborn (even the salon colorings didn't mask them completely). I was really pleased with the product. I used it a couple of times - just divided up the product (Pre-mixed. Once mixed you can't save it). I don't think you are supposed to do that and it might make my head fall off but so far nothing bad happened. I did do the recommended allergy test first (testing the product on your arm for a couple of days). No problems. It is kind of a shame the tubes are so big - I only need like a teaspoon so a lot gets thrown away. The color lasted until the new hair grew in - about five/six weeks. Looked great the whole time.
