4I Like It
By Norma Lehmeierhartie
Herbatint is one of the less toxic hair color products available and works pretty well. You may have to experiment to get the right hair color--light chestnut is more like medium to dark brown, and works well on me. The product does not come with a container to mix color and developer; I bought a cheap ketchup like container and use that. (Use hot water and soap to rinse it out at end to reuse.) The bottle is just enough for my thick, past shoulder hair and I use a comb to get the product through all my hair.My scalp does itch a bit while product is on it. Color is good, though--my hairdresser always comments on it. And, it does a great job of covering grey.Does fade a little sooner than I would like. Also, the conditioner that comes with the color works nicely but smells awful--super perfumy--so, unfortunately, I toss it.Recommend.Author, HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT

5best haircolor!

Love the application, looks natural. I get complements from top hairstylists. My #2 choice is Naturtint. You have to match the samples; ignore the name of the color (I consider my hair dark brown though this color is labeled "Light Chestnut").

4My Advice to First-Timers! :-)
By teatime
This is a good product, especially ideal for medium to dark hair-shade women (red-wine & brunettes), but most people don't "really" understand hair dye, like a professional would, nor should they, but one must be careful if one decides to take the fate of one's hair in their own hands! lol. For anyone trying to achieve or maintain a lighter shade, or never dyed their hair themselves before, here's my 15-year experience advice:For those that don't know how to color their hair, especially light colors, if you really want to do it on your own, then it's best to test a thin section of hair in an area that is unseen--such as the nape of the neck-- to see if you like the color as is. If you have really short hair, this test may not be possible. I'll mention it again, but basically this product contains NO peroxide, so even the "light" colors from Naturtint can still darken your light hair. If you have light hair & want to stay light, try their lightest shade first & then go from there. You may also not need to leave it in as long if you have very processed hair & want to stay light, or perhaps dilute it with a tiny bit of the conditioner provided. In reality, light-haired people need permanent (or perhaps demi-permanent color), NOT semi-permanent like this one. I would recommend light-haired women go to a salon or use a "permanent" cream product at home, such as Clairol or Feria, etc., only after they have professionally achieved their desired color & are just trying to maintain it.At a salon, the colorist analyzes the person's exisiting color, hair texture, damage level, grays, etc, then decides what to mix to create the look... That's right, colorists do not use just one color--like with the kits--which is why it comes out so nice. And they MIGHT use PEROXIDE to lighten, and they always use PERMANENT colors, which you won't get with this semi-permanent kit, PLUS they mix together various shades. The only time they might not use permanent color is if they use a (semi or demi) gloss, which is NOT intended to lighten one's hair. For light-haired people, I would recommend a salon trip (or 3) to get to the shade you want if you are not used to mixing colors! Also, if you are red-haired or blonde & want to change to a different SHADE of red or blonde, then DEFINITELY go to a salon at first. Lastly, if you have virgin hair---never dyed before--also go to a salon at least once. Same goes for: red changing to blonde, or dark hair changing up to a lighter shade. Once the colorist has achieved your color (which might take 1-4 trips to get your hair there safely, without frying), only THEN should you attempt to continue on your own at home with a DEMI-PERMANENT or PERMANENT color. People don't understand that it's not like snapping your fingers. To get hair to a different shade without frying your hair takes knowledge and expertise. Once you have achieved the color, then you can more safely attempt to continue re-creating it at home, if you know what you're doing & know what color(s) to use. Personally, for blonde & most red hair, I would use a traditional product, not a "natural" one, at least, not at first. Also, ALL hair dye itches: ammonia-based much more so than this product, causes itchy scalp....ALWAYS ALWAYS dye your hair on a dirty scalp; three days unwashed is best if you have sensitive skin. Finally, almost all the ammonia-free semi-permanent dyes are two to three shades darker if you use them undiluted or unmixed, because there is NO PEROXIDE & it is not permanent color. *TO UNDO A DARK COLOR, GO TO A SALON! There are now professional products that remove dark hair dye (most of it) safely and peroxide-free if you have botched-up your color. It's not worth having a head of straw, so ladies, please go to a salon for help if you make a mistake. :-)I only intend to defend a decent product and also informing light-haired people that this may not be the product for them. I only use this product because it contains less harsh chemicals and I have deep, dark brown hair & want to cover a few grays & add lowlights (I used the chestnut). It's still a good & safe product for many people, but not for everyone. IT IS DARKER PEOPLE! BE CAREFUL! Good luck!
