This item is difficult to review. First of all, the red is amazing. Gorgeous! The best red I've seen, I love it. My hair is dark brown, and the red showed up nicely.That's the good news. The bad is that the red washed out within two washes. And, this was the most difficult dye I ever worked with. It stained my ceramic tiles, the grout, my face, my arms and nails, my floor. It ruined my bathroom carpet. I use dye all the time, and yes, it splatters, but always if I wipe it quickly, it is fine. And never had I had my shower and tub stained so badly.So, make your own choice. The red is excellent but be careful! Other Manic Panic red dyes last longer and don't stain things that are not your hair as badly, but are not as brilliant a red either.

Stains Really Badly

My hair is really black so when I put it on and there wasn't much change in my hair color I wasn't surprised but what really got to me were the stains that it left behind. Some of the product fell on the counter and when I wiped it off there was a whole bunch of pink leftover. Also do as it says do not let the product touch your scalp because tight now my scalp is hot pink. My hands and nails are still pink because I made an elementary mistake and washed the product out without any gloves on.

level 2 is the way to go!

Level one rinses only last a week or two before your original color pokes through again. Level 3 is a permanent rinse - so when your hair grows, the different color in your roots has a stark contrast. I love the Natural Instincts level 2 rinses. The color lasting power varies depening on the color of your natural hair and the color you select. I leave color on for over the maximum 20 minutes or it just won't take - but the color is truly natural in appearance and doesn't look like some freakish tone - even when it fades after about 30 shampoos. It starts to gently fade at about the time different colored roots start showing, so you don't get a stark difference - it just looks like your hair is changing colors on its own - slowly and gracefully - giving you a day or even a week to put off before coloring your hair again.

Why did you change a great product?

To ClariolI love, love, love the old version of your medium brown color. Why on earth did you change the formula, with that stupid 2 week refresher that turns your hair reddish? On top of it, the newer formula dries out your hair and does not last as long. Please go back to the oringal formulas, please!!!!! I loved the older version, it beautifully colored my hair, and it made my hair silky smooth and healthy.GO Back to Orginal Version, or else this customer will leave you!

From fall 2011 onward, "New and Improved" = Ruined

ZERO STARSBe careful: I used this product (Natural Instincts 14 Tweed, in the OLD box) for years, and always used to be very happy with the color and the conditioner. The color and conditioner always used to make my hair feel smooth, and I used to use the conditioner several times between colorings. I have gray to cover, and the old product was a great color -- cool, light brown, and gentle for using often as my hair grew out. Fade used to be nice and roots not as apparent as with a permanent color.A few months ago, I went to the store and found that my reliable product had a new and improved box. You can distinguish the "new and improved" product by the green stripe on the front of the new box, and because it offers a "Week 2 Color Refresher" packet.I grabbed a few of the new boxes, which promised the same good color. The new "improved" product is NOTHING like the old. The color was ugly, and no nice tube of the great conditioner! Tried the Color Refresher packet and it turned my hair clown color. Looked like glow-in-the-dark hair -- and of course, only on part of my hair. My hair felt awful and looked even worse.I spent hours washing my hair with laundry detergent to get some semblance of a normal color. I threw away the unused boxes -- did not even donate them to Goodwill!I would no longer recommend this product to anyone -- and am actually warning you not to use it. If you have used this product in the past, be aware that it has changed, and make sure that if you try it, you have time in your schedule to try to fix the results. Or make sure you have a hat!***Update***Currently using L'Oreal Paris Healthy Look Crème Gloss Color and pretty happy with it. I have not been able to find the perfect ash brwon that I really want, though.********

Good Value on a Multi-pack & Good Grey Coverage

This is a great value on a multi-pack of what is now my favorite hair color. Although I've had better color results with a few other products, (as well as with professional color), this is the ONLY color that I use now, because it is the only color I have found that gives me complete grey coverage without a FOUL ODOR or scalp irritation.Unlike a semi-permanent, this really covers grey (I'm about 25% grey, with shoulder-length, dark to medium brown hair). Now, a word of warning--I use 5N, which is supposed to be "Light Chestnut Brown" but I have found that the actual color is closer to Medium Brown, especially if I leave it on as long as I have to to completely cover my stubborn greys (about 45 minutes on the roots).SO, here are the pros and cons:PROS:Complete grey coverage (IF you leave it on long enough)No foul odorNo ammonia smellNice soft hair the day after coloringNo scalp irritation for me (and I am very sensitive to perfumes, dyes, and chemicals)CONS:The development time is longer than they say on the box, especially for grey hairThe shade is at least 1-2 shades darker than advertised, so choose accordingly!

Great hair color

I have been using Naturtint for about five years. It's great. It does not have that horrible chemical smell. It covers the gray hair, leaves my hair looking and feeling great. The color is a bit dark at first, however, after a week the color looks and stays vibrant. I don't know why anyone would want to use a chemical hair color. This is the best product.

great product, have used it for years!

I have used this product for years and am so worried it will be discontinued! Please no! After 4-5 years of using the shades 8.2, 8.3, and 9.2 I have finally de-coded the secret for natural blond hair fading into the abyss! I have always thought the blond shades produced either to ashy-blonde or to reddish-blonde colors. My hairdresser unlocked the secret.. she said try mixing. So I did just that with 8.3 and 9.2 (very carefully) and I am so HAPPY with my results! FInally the perfect shade! My roots always come in but the rest of the hair is a nice color, so I just do the 'root touch up' directions. I also leave it on for 30 minutes, and do 5 minutes of all over colour. I follow the directions pretty spot on other than that. I really got a professional looking color by mixing. But just be careful. I now have half of each to do my next job in a few months.. so none is wasted in the mixing process. Please Loreal.. DO NOT DISCONTINUE THE BEST HAIR COLOUR ON THE MARKET!!!

easy hightlights at home!

I tried Couleur Experte for the first time after much consideration and procrastination. I was afraid the 2 part system would just give me twice as much chance to screw up my hair, but it turned out beautifully. I loved the color after the first step, but I was really impressed at how good the hightlights turned out, especially considering the lousy job it looked like I was doing applying them. If I can do it, anyone can. The color turned out closer to the actual pic on the box than any haircolor I've ever used, and I color a lot. Only downside to this is that it doesn't cover my gray roots so well, but it isn't advertised for gray coverage. Great hightlights!

Color is great, but BE CAREFUL with the highlights!

Being the brave (and possibly crazy) person that I am, I decided to switch up my color 5 days before I was going to a wedding, which is when you are guaranteed for something to go wrong. Step 1 was easy enough - all over color. No problems there, the color was (and still is) a very vibrant reddish brown, with a little more red than I was expecting, but nothing alarming. Step 2 was something I hadn't tried yet - highlights. They give you 2 applicators for this, one that looks like a big mascara wand, and one that's like a mini pair of tongs with bristles for really getting the highlights ON. I think I chose the wrong one of the 2 by choosing the tongs. I mean, everything went on well enough, and the blue tint helps you see where you've actually applied them so you can space them easily (helpful!), but when I rinsed my hair less than 15 minutes later, the highlighted sections were BRIGHT ORANGE, not the gentle lighter red shown on the box. Not the natural look I was going for at all. After having a few people tell me "it's not THAT bad" I decided to give it a couple days to see if I could get used to it, but eventually it evened out and didn't look as harsh. They're still much brighter than I think they should be, but when I try again I'll leave it in for a MUCH shorter time and use the mascara wand instead.It's worth noting that several days later it was still rinsing out of my hair (it would run clear, and then do the same thing the next day) and I fear I stained a few hotel pillowcases, but the color has held up well and I plan to stay this color for a while now. Just hopefully with non-orange highlights.

High Fidelity Colour!

HerbaShine number 700 Dark Natural Blonde is an excellent replacement for Garnier Nutrisse Dark Natural Blonde number 70. This particular shade of HerbaShine has a very similar colour and slightly cheaper price. In my experience HerbaShine is clearly superior in many ways to the Nutrisse shade.PROS:* HerbaShine contains no ammonia with no choking, eye watering clouds of chemical vapor. My scalp did not turn red or feel irritated.* The product has a very pleasant smell and is much improved over the Nutrisse line.* The colour is fantastically vibrant with remarkable shine and vitality that beats Nutrisse hands down.* Treatment time is stated to be 10 minutes. 5 more minutes were added for tint application on 'hard to cover' grey areas.* Grey coverage was 100% (even hard to treat areas at temples and crown).* After tint application and blow drying, texture of hair was shiny and manageable with no dryness.CONS:* The manufacturer states that the colour will last through 28 washings. After 21 days the vibrancy and depth of the shade was beginning to ebb. The colour was reduced on areas of grey hair. Your results may differ, especially if you have no grey hair. On areas of my hair that have no grey hair, the colour was still quite good after the full 28 days of washing.NOTE:* I applied some of the product to my crown and temples first, as they are the greyest and left the mixture on for 5 minutes. Then I applied more product to under parts of my hair that needed touchup and left the mixture on for an additional 5 minutes. So Amazing

Love, love LOVE! Herbashine is fantastic. My hair was so damaged and ridiculous and I've been trying to grow it healthy, which means going back to my natural color. I tried this because of the commercials and let me tell you- not only does it make your hair HEALTHIER LOOKING AND SOFT, but the color also lasts and lasts. I colored my hair in Early August and didn't notice it fading until late October. Even then, it was barely noticeable. I used the same color again, which matches my natural hair color PERFECTLY, and I just love it. I can't say enough good things about it. No more split ends, no more crazy breakage, just beautiful, healthy-looking color! :)If you are skeptical, you have got to give this a try- you won't regret it! It won't damage your hair, so you have nothing to lose!

Wow Your Hair is So Shiny!

Garnier's New HerbaShine Color Crème with Bamboo Extract is a definite improvement from their normal "Nutrisse" color. The shine is incredible! I've never seen a "store-bought" product compete with a salon color. If you have fine hair you will be especially pleased with this product. It will strengthen your hair and make it feel full and thick. I also liked that it only takes 10-15 minutes to color. While I like everything about this hair color the thing I liked the best was that there was no ammonia smell. It also covers gray hair very effectively. When I went to get my hair cut my hairdresser loved this color on me. She thought it was pretty.~The Rebecca Review

I love Perfect 10!

I color my hair every 6 weeks or so, and the most annoying thing for me is waiting for 35-45 minutes for the color to set before rinsing my head, so I thought I'd give this 10 minute dye a try. I did not find the smell to be even close to as strong as a lot of the hair color products I've tried. Also, although I have a sensitive scalp, there were no problems whatsoever with the way my head and hair reacted to the dye. I also noticed while washing the dye out, that it did not stain my shower, as some of the other dyes do. After using the enclosed conditioner and completing my final rinse, I combed my hair out and got a good look at the color. I use a medium brown, and my roots are normally about 1/4 gray between colorings. This hair color completely covered the gray. It has now been a couple of weeks since I colored my hair with Perfect 10. The color is staying fresh, with no fading. My hair is baby soft and feels very healthy. I'm very happy with this product, and I will use it again next month.

Great hair color!

I have been using this hair color for over a year- and it covers my gray/white hairs wonderfully and still looks natural. My natural hair color is a more of a reddish brown, but I thought since I had to color my hair anyway why not go a little more red?It's fast, easy. The only complaint is that I sometimes have to color before my three weeks are up. The color sometimes fades, but I guess I can't really complain because I would rather be able to color my hair again than be 22 years old with white hairs!!!This is my favorite shade of red from Perfect 10, but you probably need to have a lighter hair color to get the results you want. I read a review on this product for a woman who had black hair, she should try the dark auburn color, not the light. It isn't covering her grays because it is meant for people with lighter hair.

It really is nice and easy...

I have tried many different at home kits and they all seem to have a pension for turning my hair bright orange or yellow so I usually go to the salon but hate the 5 hours it seems to take. Plus, the $200 bill when they are finished isn't so grand. I decided to give this a shot and I absolutely loved it. Including prep time and the 10 minute set time it only took about 15 minutes. The downside was I didn't care for the applicator brush because it was hard to run through my hair which is very long (need two boxes) so I just used my hands to apply the hair color. I also used it for root touch-up and again with the lacking in being meticulous I used my hands and applied to my roots which I thought could cause a problem since I was getting a little beyond my roots. It came out absolutely perfect though. My only real complaint is the color washes out of the occasional gray hair after about a month. If your hair is past shoulder length or thick definitely get two bottles to make sure you have enough.
