On Henna in General - I'VE NEVER USED THE LISTED PRODUCT!

Using henna, just like anything else that isn't mass produced and simplified to smithereens, is a science that requires some knowledge of a couple of plants and the chemical reactions between them, YOUR hair and YOUR skin.As far as the way it works, chemical dyes are like paint and henna is like varnish.Paint covers completely, giving one solid color.Varnish enhances and/or darkens the color of what is underneath it.Just like wood, natural hair has various shades and tones to it.When you use a chemical dye you simply cover the whole thing, like paint unless you add another layer of highlights.Henna will coat each hair with a layer of red that lets some of your natural color shine through.If you are dark haired, you'll get red highlights, mostly noticeable in the sun.If very light haired, you will get fiery orangey red.And of course every shade in between depending on your color.When you add other plants to the mix (Cassia, indigo, buxus, amla) you can tone down the red, go brown or even completely black.Couple of things when looking for henna:* make sure it really is 100% pure henna and not a mixture of paints, dyes, sand etc that many companies add to bulk out their henna.* pure, body art quality is the best kind of henna because it's sifted very fine to be able to put on your skin.* henna needs time to release it's dye before putting it on your hair (up to 12 hours) but indigo starts to lose its pigment immediately after mixingThe following websites (created by same woman) have TONS of GREAT info.There is SO MUCH info here you can spend lots of time browsing and learning (it's well worth it!)This woman has spent years studying, experimenting with, writing about and using henna and other plants for color:[...][...][...]Lady C (as she's called by others who use her site) sells GREAT stuff (I've used it before) but money's kinda tight so I came here looking for maybe something a little cheaper or eligible for my free Prime shipping! This was my first experience with Henna. I must say I found it rather confusing. I have hip length, rather thick brown hair. I wanted to get it to look more like black, in a natural way that is also temporary. I read all I found on henna, and decided (either was convinced, or convinced myself) that henna would do that for me.Well, it didn't. I did enjoy the texture it gave my hair. And after the first rinse, the smell. It seemed only to dusken (that's not a word!) my hair, gave it a softer, duller tinge, with a green tint. Green happens to by my favorite color, so this was perfectly fine, but I wanted temporary black.The smell at first was rather strong, and overpoweringly much like swamp-water. I had a very difficult time actually putting it on my hair. It ended up in green clumps of mush. The greatest puzzle was how to apply this to my hair. It was messy!

I have allergic reactions to regular hair dye to the extent to need medical attention. My natural hair is a sandy red brown color. I did research on the Henna Persian Black. And found that it was 100% Botanical. It was not that difficult to apply but very different. Similar to applying a relaxer to the whole hair, after I made the mixture I did notice that it started to get real thick almost clumpy so towards the end I made a mess. (When this happens add more boiling water to your mix to keep it thick and creamy). I let this stay on for an hour and a half. with no heat. After I rinsed it out with conditioner and to my surprise came out quite well. My hair was jet black actually it looked better and felt healthier than the regular dye. It was also much thicker. I will be using this product again to keep my hair black. Before I applied this product I did do a patch test on my arm and did a strand test on my hair before I used this Henna Persian Black. Well I wish you good luck. From my experience with Henna Persian Black I would say it is safe to apply immediately after having your hair relaxed. Actually it made my hair fell a lot stronger and again as I said before thicker. But individual results may vary. Oh and if you use this over previously dyed hair It can make your hair green (do your research). Once you use henna it is a stain so you cannot go lighter.
